The thyroid is a little gland with a big job. From regulating the metabolism and helping to maintain healthy blood pressure and heart rate- it’s involved in many of the body’s functions and tremendously impacts health. When your thyroid is not working correctly, the effects on your body can be anything from fatigue, thinning hair, increased sensitivity to cold, a racing heart, and much more. But, chances are, unless you pay close attention to your body – it’s hard to tell what is happening with your thyroid health. In reality, more than 1 in 10 people has an issue with their thyroid at some point in their lifetime, and approximately 20 million people in the U.S. have thyroid disease. But most people don’t even know it! Thyroid Awareness Month is the perfect time to check in with your thyroid to see if it is functioning optimally and find out how you can improve thyroid health with things like diet and the antioxidant power of Glutathione.
What Your Thyroid Does
The thyroid is an endocrine gland that sits just below your voice box near the base of your neck. The Endocrine System comprises a series of glands that release different hormones that target specific things in the body and has many significant jobs, including regulating your metabolism and helping to maintain your blood pressure and heart rate. The thyroid gland is just one of the glands in this system that includes the pituitary gland, the thymus, the adrenal glands, the pancreas, and many more.
The thyroid secretes two main hormones into your blood: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) which are needed for all cells in your body to work normally. They help you metabolize fats, proteins, and carbohydrates and maintain your blood pressure, body temperature, and heart rate. Another gland, called the pituitary gland, tells your thyroid how many hormones your body needs.
Thyroid trouble occurs when the gland produces too many hormones or not enough.
Thyroid problems break down into two categories:
- Hypothyroidism: This occurs when your thyroid doesn’t produce enough hormones. The signs vary but are typically fatigue, weight gain, constipation, cold sensitivity, thinning hair, muscle weakness, and more.
- Hyperthyroidism: This happens when your thyroid gland produces too much hormone. Your metabolism may increase, and losing weight is one of the significant signs, along with other unwanted side effects like mood swings, energy swings, brittle hair, heart palpitations, irregular periods, and more.
Glutathione for a Healthy Thyroid
Thyroid problems can be genetic or brought on by an autoimmune disease, inflammation, or iodine deficiency. A healthy diet of vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins is vital. Iodine-rich foods help the thyroid stay healthy.
Another important way to support thyroid health naturally is to limit inflammation which is the product of oxidative stress. Oxidative stress has a dramatic effect on thyroid function. Minimizing free radical damage is done naturally by the body with the Master Antioxidant Glutathione. Not only does Glutathione battle the free radicals that attack us every day from the environment, toxins, and more – but this powerful Master Antioxidant is especially helpful for thyroid health because the thyroid gland itself produces free radicals; they are a byproduct of hormone production. Glutathione production to balance oxidative stress is critical. Without enough Glutathione, the body struggles to regulate the thyroid gland because of too much oxidative stress.
Because our naturally occurring Glutathione stores decrease as we age – and as they have to fend off more and more free radicals in the body, boosting Glutathione in the body is critical for thyroid health. Studies show that people that suffer from thyroid disorders like Hashimoto’s have increased levels of oxidative stress.
How do we boost Glutathione for overall health?
This can be done with lifestyle choices like a Glutathione-boosting diet, moderate exercise, and proper supplementation. Glutathione supplementation is also incredibly effective if it produces high efficacy, which is what Dr. Nayan Patel’s research led to with The Auro GSH™ Antioxidant Delivery System. Instead of traditional delivery of Glutathione with oral pills, IVs, or injections, Dr. Patel developed a patented, first-of-its-kind technology that optimizes antioxidant absorption and efficacy for better health and better results. Auro’s Glutaryl has the most potent delivery for overall wellness. And it’s as easy as a few squirts a day on the wrist for subdermal delivery of this powerful antioxidant that delivers the support your thyroid needs.
This month, make thyroid-supporting lifestyle changes and ensure that the Master Antioxidant Glutathione is plentiful in your body. For more information about this powerful Master Antioxidant, check out Dr. Nayan Patel’s book The Glutathione Revolution.
